Dalla Costa challenged the orthodox notion, first spelt out by Engels, but then dogmatized and codified by all communist parties, and still upheld today, that women had to leave the ‘private’ household and enter ‘social production’ as wage-workers along with the men if they wanted to create the preconditions for their emancipation.’ (31)
